you are allowed time off without pay ,to look after your kids if any are under the age of 6, they cannot discipline you or give you any warnings or sack you ,all they can do is ask you to try an sort child care out next time it happens, if you explain that you cant afford it theres nothing they can do.

Your question is...??

Sick leave is intended for when YOU are sick, not your kids.

An employer isn't going to care that your kids were sick. You weren't there, thus you have to pay the penalty.

If you don't like it, too bad. See if you can use any vacation you have to make up for the days you were off.

Sorry.......your job not your kids. You have a right to FMLA if you qualify. But not pay.........sorry......they need someone everyday.

Where's the Dad?

Get a doctor to write a note saying your children were ill and say you could not afford child care

You made a statement vicky and have not asked a question. But if you are asking is this fair, then yes, of course it is. As far as the employer is concerned you are off work due to sickness. You have to realise that you and your employers have different priorities - your first priority is, as it should be, your kids well being. But the bottom line is the two words "your kids" ! Your employers priority is to have a reliable work force who will be there at their place of work 99% of the time.

This is always a problem for a working Mum but you have to realise that there is two sides to the situation here and any employee who takes a lot of time off due to sickness - their own or their families - places a strain upon the business. A business is, just that. A business, not some sort of welfare organisation.
