more info my finance was in the military and he passed away before either one of us knew we were expecting a child I found out the day of the funeral and was shocked everyone started questioning me about it being his even after they promised to help me out with the baby ... especially his mother , I was about 6 months and called his mother to tell her about an appointment i had and the phone was disconnected so i went to her house they had moved changed numbers she cashed in his life insurance policy and ran off ....... she's never seen my son they still question me so I got a dna test done and he's the daddy he's is now three and we have nothing of this $250,000 that i think should have gone to his son ... I am alone raising a son that he made and they get to live it up and not give a damn if their son's son gets anything please help should I talk to attorney about this or what

Serious issues like this don't need to be on here. Your son deserves more than "I never got any of the $250,000 your dad left us because of someone's answer on !Yahoo Answers. I tried."
Okay, now that I'm done venting... if your fiance never updated his SGLI (Servicemember's Group Life Insurance) to reflect you as the benificiary, then no, you're entitled to nothing. You weren't married to him, so without THAT on your side, good luck on getting a copy of it. If you were, you could simply request a copy of his military record. IF you put HIS NAME on your son's birth certificate (not certain you could actually pull that off), then you can POSSIBLY use that as a way of getting a copy of his record, and searching it for his SGLI beneficiary form.

I have to agree with Dan B. You should have spoken to an attorney a long time ago. If you are unable to afford an attorney all states have there own Legal Aid Society that will take this type of case for free or a scaled fee (based on your income.) |

Definitely talk to an attorney. Find one that will take it on contingency. That is to say he will charge you only if you win and collect.
I'm pretty sure your son will be entitled to soc sec survivor's benefits as well. Check with the SS office.
Also check with the VA to see if your son is entited to any military benefits such as medical, payments, schooling, etc. |
