I am a restaurant manager. Three years ago I was fored from a job for stealing some things from the office. They prosecuted me. I will have to explain this on my record when they do a background check. I am qualified for the position but when they find out about this they will want an explination. What should I say?

Yes I agree, be honest when/if they ask. Tell them you are very sorry for what you have done and since then have never did that again and focus on some of your current qualifications of why you should get the promotion. |

You have to be honest and state why/what made you do this. You may not get the job but eventually you will find someone willing to give you another chance. People make mistakes, have to live with the consequences of it, and someone out there will appreciate your honesty and take a chance on you! |

Be honest and whether you get the job or not you will not be trying to hide your mistake. We are all human and if you can show me someone who hasn't made a mistake in their life it will be a short list. The ones who have learned from them have acquired a new lesson. Most people admire honesty in others. |

were you sued, or convicted of a crime? was it a felony or a misdemeanor. your company presumably did a background check when they initially hired you, so presumably they aren't going to find out anything new. |
