I have been in workers compensation for a year and a half because of an accident at work.?

I am now so depressed and gained weight because of the inactivity and I would like to know if I should ask to be compensated for that.

are you in the US ?
have you reached maximum medical improvement(MMI) ?
has your permanent partial disability(PPD) or permanent total disability(PTD) been set ?

everything medical that relates to the work related injury is used to set your disability rating. your settlement amount is based on the disability percentage and how it relates to the total allowable whole body disability settlement as set by your state.
if you feel these issues are related you need to discuss that with your doctors and if it is medically relevant it will be considered.

your states web-site for WC explains how the settlement process works and how the dollar amounts of all settlements are determined by the state.

In the UK a personal injury claim will take this in to account.

I am there at the moment and booked to see a psychiatrist because of the effect the loss of ability is having on my mental health. But I do not think it will make a big difference to the amount I receive.

Your kidding right? I am truly sorry for your depression, but if that were the case the thousands of lay-offs that have occurred that has led to alcoholism, suicide, foreclosed homes they too should be compensated. I can assure you if you were to ask for the compensation due to the depression and weight gain you will be denied. At most you will be advised to seek the help of a medical practitioner.
