I already applied for SSI, but in February my Disability payments from my employer's insurance company will cease and I was just told that the approval for Social Security could take months. I need some kind of income or I will lose my apartment and not be able to pay my bills. What can I do? I have a lawyer, but he didn't fully address my concern the last time I met with him. I need to know what my options are... Please, I need professional answers so if you don't know, don't guess. I appreciate your help.

How long has it been since you applied for SSI? Initial claims are decided in an average of 90 days. What is the nature of your disability? You need to get straight answers from your attorney. Better yet, skip the attorney and call your social security examiner to find out where your case is at in the process. They can give you a pretty good idea of what's left to be done on our case. I would then check with your county's dept of health and human services or equivalent agency. Explain your situation and they can let you know about any programs you may qualify for. |
