Find answers to your legal question.

I have been put on short working hours with my work mates, with our permission.?

The problem i have is that during the time that this has been running some of our workmates have lost no time and worked overtime, also now one section has been put back on 5 days and we all are still on four, Can they do that lawfully.

Changes can be made to your contract providing you have been informed beforehand, and agree to the changes.
But if everyone has been made to work shorter hours and everyone takes a pay reduction then it is deemed fair, but if some shifts or sections have had their hours increased and therefore earning the same wage as before, then you should be able to do the same, if not then it could be seen as a form of discrimination.

I would contact acas or your union representative.

This would depend on your contract, how long you have worked there and whether you are being paid according to your contract.

I don't know where people get this idea that employers can do whatever they want with hours... they can't! There are such things as contracts and there are also things called laws.

Of course - they can do what they want. You can ask if you can put in some extra hours for the other group if you like.

By the way - the donut shop is upset that you've been spending less money with them, but you've actually been drinking more beer. They want a fair share of your money too.

I'm one of the 2 people out of 12 at my work that got to keep their normal hours. I made sure when hiring in to learn more then one job and learn jobs that no one else knows how to do. Because I took this road I am one of the keepers. They can put what evey employees on what ever hours they want. The best thing you can do is out preform the other ones and maybe will be one of the ones that get more hours.

Your company should have discussed the change of working patterns before they changed them. If they did not then you should try and get them to explain the reason why they have done this.
There is no legal reason why they should even out the hours between all the workers but it would make more sense for them to do this as they would be paying flat rate for all the staff and not overtime for some.
