I have only worked at my current job for 3 months. Do I owe them any notice when I resign?

I resigned my job of 3 months a few days ago, giving them over a week's notice. I hate the job and have a new one and am ready to start it soon. Since I've only worked at my current job for 3 months, do I technically OWE them any notice? I doubt I will even be putting this job on my resume since I haven't worked there long.
I'd like to go ahead be released from my notice a few days early so that I can have a little mental health time off before beginning my new job.

I am still in a 4-month-long probationary period with the current job, too, so not really considered a full employee anyway.

You're never really obligated to provide notice before resigning from an "at will" job. However, if you are a contracted employee or such, you will want to read over your contract.
It's simply the professional thing to do, regardless.

Some employers will consider you fired or quit if you don't give enough notice. Check with your company's Human Resources Department or employee handbook to find out the specifics.

Basically, it's a matter of what they're going to put on your record. A future employer can find out where you've worked on a simple background check, so I wouldn't burn this bridge unnecessarily since someone could technically find out about it later and call them to check your employee file.

Your mental health time is not as important as keeping your work history pristine. You can't redo things like this later. It will always be on some record somewhere that you quit and left them in a lurch with no one to cover your shifts. Also, it's just the nice thing to do (give as much notice as possible, I mean). Think of how your early absence will affect other people at your job and how you would feel if you were the one who had to pick up any slack.

Giving notice is a courtesy. But you should work out the time that you agreed to when you gave them notice. You never know when you may have to come back to these people for a reference. You might as well leave with a good reputation and feelings.

Legally you don't have to provide any notice, people just do this as a courtesy.

:-)
I would most certainly give them a 2-weeks notice if you're going to quit. If you give them notice...THAT would be consider "resigning." Even though you may not be considered a "full-employee", its always a plus if you can keep in your employer's good-graces. That way, should you ever find yourself applying to the company again in the future, you haven't "burned your bridges." A lot of companies will NOT allow you as a re-hire if you didn't give them notice the first time you quit.

Its up to you, just stop going...they cant do anything to you, but only if you arent going to use them as a reference or anything, cuz that would be crap. Its really only a kindness thing to give a notice, if you dont care, then thats on you.

Usually, there are no legal requirements for either employee or employer, regarding length of employment. Check the fine print of any documents you signed when hired.
However, it's a professional ethic to usually offer at least 2 weeks notice. If the employer accepted your 1 week notice, you should stay there until that time. Just professional courtesy - remember, your future employer might talk to your past employer :)

There is no legal or binding order to ever give notice. However, as a courtesy and to assure a positive reference, a two week notice is very practical. Many times with proper communication, an employer will work with you concerning giving the notice, and working short of that notice.

good luck

p.s.,,, hmmmmm, but they RARELY give us a two-week notice...,

Notice is not a legal matter. It's a matter of choice. If you agreed with them that you would give notice, then you owe it, but if you don't honor that, there are no repercussions. In other words, it's up to you.
