Find answers to your legal question.

I just received a letter from a Lawyer who is representing my former employer, Pricewaterhouse Coopers...?

The letter states that there have been numerous prank calls being made to the employees' cell phones at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and that individuals receiving these prank calls believes it is me. The lawyer is stating that if it is me making these calls, that I need to stop, or further action will take place. What are my options? Obviously I am not the one making phone calls. But if this other person continues to make prank calls, how do I prevent for being blamed for them? I left my company on good terms so I have no reason to do this.

If you didn't do it, why would you even consider engaging in, what my grandfather called, a pissing match? If they had any proof, they wouldn't be trying to bully you with such a pointless tactic.

Throw the letter away and enjoy the silliness from the outside. Good Luck.

You can write a polite letter back indicating that you are not the person making prank calls. You can state that you consider this a serious matter and that you have too much respect for the company and your former colleagues to act in such an unprofessional manner Indicate that if there is anything you can do to help apprehend the culprit, you would be happy to help. Provide all of your phone numbers, and ask if any of them are showing up on Caller ID, because if they are you would want the phone company to investigate and possibly trace the calls.

It is probably in your best interest to consult with a lawyer. You can usually get a free or cheap consultation. You might also want to change your phone number in case they are tracking it that way. The letter you got is probably a cease and desist letter and you can get in further trouble if the calls continue to be made. It would also be beneficial for you to get an alibi for when those calls are being made. You can do that by keeping receipts that show you were somewhere else when those calls were being made, like a grocery store or something.

I would write a letter stating that I left the company on good terms and to look elsewhere; they are fishing for a scapegoat. Leave a paper trail...They are harassing you.

That's bizarre and worrisome. WHY do they think it's you? I hope you have another job and are past the probationary period because I would be concerned this could taint them as a recommendation.

I have never had a cell phone, but I thought they were supposed to log the number that called them. I would probably respond, in writing, to the attorney stating that I am confused as to why I am being contacted about something that I am not doing and that they should properly investigate the matter as I'm not involved. I'd keep a copy as well.

Do you have any ideas who might be doing it? Someone who's passive-agressive and wants to not only goad those at work but dig at you now you're gone? (Someone must have said, "I bet this is Joe!" or something. Why?)
