I just started a job as a care assistant...how much do you think ill get paid?

I am 20 years old so minimum wage for me is £4.60. I am un-skilled but i am receiving training on the job. I know i dont get paid for breaks and i am working 12 hour shifts. I forgot to ask how much i get paid. How much would you guess a care assistant in a nursing home would get paid hourly? thanks

jeez- ill ask when i go in tomorrow...i was only looking for a guestimation

My parents used to run a nursing home, and we only paid our (unqualified staff) £5.40 an hour, which is about right.

"You forgot to ask". Seriously you need to clarify with your supervisor. This shouldn't be something for those of us on YA to guess.

Btw - I was a care assistant so good luck with your job x

Edit - OK - my estimation would be the minimum wage which you have said is 4.60 an hour.

Perhaps you should just ask them.
Obviously rates are different for many reasons (qualifications, what you'll be doing, being a newbie)
Wouldn't asking them how much you were being paid, be at the top of your agenda?

As a care assistant, I would say at minimum wage or just above it, since you are unskilled in the area. However, after your training is complete, they should give you a wage increase.

Good luck!

In the states it would be 10 - 12 an hour

ask them. and they will tell you

I am going to say ask them when you go in tomorrow, since they are the best ones to tell you your hourly rate.

However, it does depend on the home. Some homes pay over minimum wage, maybe not by that much, but it is higher. Others stick to the minimum wage rate. Care assistants are woefully underpaid, in my opinion, but the job is rewarding.

Are you only in it for the money ? I would like to think my kin were being looked after because you cared.
