i'm trying to get a job, but i just moved and i cant find my social security card or birth certificate.i'm under 18 and i have no idea how/where to get either a us citizen id card or id card for use of resident citizen in the us;i don't know if it would take longer to get one of those, or if i should just wait like two weeks for a copy of my birth certificate to come in the mail,because i can't get my social without a birth certificate.

You can produce a sworn affidavit declaring your age and signed by a magistrate to overcome this predicament ! |

Why don't you have a copy of your birth certificate faxed to you? It's pretty quick that way, and if you know your SSN, just put it on the application / resume for a job. That's what I would do. A driver's license is also a pretty good form of ID. I have only had to actually use my SS card for one of the 15 or 20 jobs that I have had.
If you know your social security number, you can just go into a social security office and give your name and number, they can look it up to verify what's there and have one mailed to you but it will take a few weeks to get it either way. |

i lost my birth certificate too and was able to pay a little extra and i got it in a week, if that..i had to fax stuff to PA...as for your soc card, i think you can go to a social security office and just get one..i would do that.. |

You can get a certified copy of you birth certificate. Contact the office in the location of the registration and see what they require for a copy. Be sure to get a certified copy. The you can take it the the social security office and get a replacement card.

To legally work in the U.S., you must have identification proving your can legally work in the country. A driver's license alone is not sufficient. Assuming you are a citizen, the best forms of ID for this purpose is your license plus a social security card, or a passport. Contact the city or your birth and get an official copy of your birth certificate, and then use it to get the social security card. You can pay a little extra to get expedited processing of both. |
