I work at a Hair Salon as a Shampoo assistant. I live in Indiana where state minimum wage is $6.55 an hour as of July 24. 2008, but it also says the employees under 20 may be paid $4.25 an hour for the first 90 consecutive days. Is this one of those cases?

If you get tips then they can pay you less money because your "tips" will average out more then the state minimum |

you did not give your age so I will assume you are under 20 in which case it is legal. If you are 20 or over then you have to be paid the Min. wage. |

No, those 90 days are long gone. It may however be a case of them being allowed to pay you less than minimum due to tips. Some states allow this some don't. For example, in Missouri, Pizza drivers get paid an hourly wage less than minimum because of their tips while in Arizona they have to be paid minimum even though they get tips from delivering. |
