I need a job that wont care about my criminal history.?

I recently moved to Dallas. I got in trouble 8 years ago for shop lifting at WalMart, its a misdemeanor. Yeah I was really stupid but I was a teenager and that is behind me now. I'm getting job oppertunities left and right paying pretty good money but when I tell them the truth about my background they basically treat me like I killed someone. Please help, if anyone knows any good companies that will be forgiving of my situation, please let me know.

Sometimes records can be expunged. Check with the county that has your conviction records. This would allow you to truthfully say "no" in response to the question about a criminal conviction. Lying on a job application is not a good idea, since that alone can be grounds for immediate termination.

The background checks I am familiar with in California only go back 7 years, so the record is not visible to us after this. We look at each conviction on a case by case basis, considering the severity of the offense, the relevance to our job opening and the amount of time that has passed. Eight years is a long time for a minor offense that was not repeated and the people you are talking to may have done something similar when they were a teenager. Explain what happened during the interview if it comes up.

Many companies search for criminal convictions in each county you lived or worked but many do not. Larger companies check more frequently than smaller ones and certain occupations are required to do a thorough background check. Jobs where you are not responsible for money or merchandise may be more receptive. I hope that this helps guide your job search to a successful conclusion.

Go to the staffing agencies. Those are usually a little more forgiving. Be honest right away. Tell them it's only a misdemeanor and show proof. They'll set you up with something. You probably will encounter those who are unforgiving but if you paid for your crime then you should be alright.

I have worked for several staffing firms since I got out of the Army in 2006. I have no criminal background but my experience with some of the staffing firms gives me the knowledge to direct you in that way. Plus, you never know, you might be sent out to a job and if it's temp to hire, you might get hired on and make better money. Try it out. Good luck.

I think you should be forgiven and if I had my own business I would give you a job or at least an opportunity to prove yourself. You are right it is history now and you didn't injure anybody.
