No matter how professional your letter sounds, sadly, it probably won't help. Tardiness is not really something you can dispute. If you were late often enough to write you up on it, they're probably not going to want you back. A professional letter would be necessary if you feel you had been unfairly dismissed.
In this case, however, you will probably do better to send a very personal, open and honest letter.
Be yourself, write from the heart and be apologetic.
Say you're sorry, say it's been a huge learning experience for you. Tell them how much the job meant to you, but how you never knew how much until it was gone.
Ask them to reconsider their decision, and assure them it will never be a problem in the future.
If you're really serious about getting your job back, show them you are serious by suggesting you will return, as a volunteer for one month, if they agree to reconsider hiring you at the end of it, and then be there early every day, no matter what if they have you back. |

Unfortunately, you can write as many letters as you want, it will not make a difference. Companies usually stand by their decisions al the time. If not think of the precedent they will be setting to other employees. |

You could try the same guidelines that are used for professional sales letters. They're very good for sounding like a professional and getting your point across.
