I need help with this?

when a new company buys out the previous owners can they take my vaction time away from me after 18 years of working there. Kansas

It all depends on what the new company's policys are. Alot of times when a company comes in and buys out another they will make you essentially re-apply for your job. This doesn't mean you are goign to lose your job it just means because of disclosure issues, the original company cannot hand over it's paperwork on you, like SSN, health insurance, etc etc. You need to sign and fill out everything all over again and if they are going to do something with regards to your vacation time, it will usually be in some form of writing you have to sign.

Oh typically they will have roundtable meetings with the new company heads where you can forward any questions regarding issues such as this to them directly and get a response.

They sure can and they always do. Your lucky most of the time they let every one go and then have them put in apps. to be rehired. That way you have no group insurance or any other perks

The short answer is yes. Many purchasing companies don't want the liability of vacation pay, especially if you have been allowed to accumulate large amounts by rolling your vacation from year to year. I personally know of a situation where the purchasing company wanted to let a Vice President go but couldn't because they had agreed to let the old vacation policy stand. The VP had 26 weeks of accumulated vacation, which would have cost the new organization $250,000 if the let him go.
