Find answers to your legal question.

I only worked 3 hours yesterday. I'm a full-time employee. Did my employer break the law for sending me home?

So here's the details. I live in california. I'm a full-time employee at a restaurant. We have a split break. Which means we close at a certain time and open again later the same day. But I think I read it somewhere that if you're a full-time employee, you have to at least work four hours in a day. Unless, you're sick, or you ask to go home early or whatever. Please enlighten me. Thanks

The link below is from the State of CA labor website. I think it will answer your question. You need to evaluate the information and see if it is specific to your situation.

They probably sent you home because it wasn't busy enough and you probably have a lot of hours in already so they decided to give someone else little more time cause they don't have enough hours. I've been there and done that being a night manager of a restaurant years ago.

No they did not break the law. If there is no work then you cannot work, simple as that. Unless you have a contract or are a part of a bargaining unit that states they must pay you for x amount of hours if sent home early then they can do it.
