I quit my job, is there a loophole to get unemployment benefits.?

I am in the state of California I have worked for a company for 3.5 years. I was moved to another dept because the company no longer needed my position because the business was doing poorly and I was transferred instead of being let go. But the boss in that department was horrible, I quit due to the hectic work conditions after 5 months in that position. Is there any way to collect unemployment benefits so I could take some classes and get a new job?

you can and should file.........
quiting a job does not disqualify you, the reason you quit is what determines if you qualify. the reason you have here for quiting probably won't work but the only way to know is to file. under California rulings if you quit it is assumed you had cause and the employer must show that you did not. the same premise holds true in California if you are fired the state assumes that there was no cause to fire an employee and the employer must prove there was cause. even if you do qualify from the job loss if you are not able to work and actively seeking employment you will not receive benefits. you can go to school but if your school schedule causes you to refuse employment then you can be disqualified.

you dont get unemployment if you quit...they have to fire you

The only way you can collect unemployment is if you gave your 2 weeks notice and your employer told you they didn't need you those 2 weeks and let you go before the 2 weeks without pay. That happened to me and my former employer had to pay unemployment because after I gave my 2 week notice they told me they no longer needed and didn't pay me for those 2 weeks.
