I think my friend got abused at her work place?
Find answers to your legal question.

I think my friend got abused at her work place?

Her supervisor told her that during her period, she can take care of her feminine needs only on break or lunch time which is assigned by the company (the company told her when to go to lunch etc). I told her to go to labor dept, but she said it's gonna be her words against the supervisor's and she's afraid the labor dept won't believe her. Any advice? Thanks

Many businesses have policies that bathroom breaks come at break and lunch only. That generally means someone gets a break every 1 and 1/2 to 2 hrs. (for ex in at 9 break around 10:30. Lunch 12:30-1, break around 3 and off at 5) Most women can manage 2 hrs between bathroom trips and feminine product changes. If your friend flows so heavily that she can not last a couple of hrs with maxi strength protection she may need to see a gynecologist. Most labor laws say that breaks must be given if the co is large enough where labor laws apply. Most do not say that a person can walk off the job for personal convenience just whenever they want. I don't like being restricted and I don't like restricting other people but generally those rules come into play where there has been abuse or where the flow of work is such that people need to be at the work station either because of customers coming in or because of an assembly line situation or because there have been abuses of personal privileges

where do you work? a sweatshop? you can't go to the bathroom? If it's an emergency, I don't think something like that is enforceable . If you have breaks and lunch, that's 3 times a day she can go to the bathroom while at work - does she really need more times than that?

I would still call the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board).
