However I am very short I am only 5'5". Is this going to be a problem? I am a fairly muscular guy and strong. I am losing some weight that I put on after high school but got a little way to go. But the main concern is my height. Im pretty sure I will be the shortest person on any force I join. Can I still be a good cop?

you can be a good cop at any height. the ability to perform your duties does not rely on how tall you are, rather, how just, compassionate, honest, thick skinned, willing to learn and adapt and how well you can handle stressful situations. being a police officer is not all about flexing your muscles and physicial strength. i agree, you need to be able to defend yourself and handle your weapons, but your most valuable tool of the trade is your brain. |

Of course! The police department will look at your skills, not your height. They look to hire people with a lot knowledge and people that know how to use that knowledge. |

You will not be the shortest one believe me. A good cop has nothing to do with height. You just do your best and you will accomplish a lot. Police officers do not do what they do for the money but for the love of helping others. Good luck from a 911 dispatcher |

I on the way there and I am 5'3 147pounds and pass the physical exam, however that does not mean I am not going to be a good or bad cop yes physical you have to be fit but your character and the passion for what you want will make you the best cop ever!!! There is no height requirement. Ever since they began allowing women on the force and lowering the physical requirements they'll even let my 3 year old son join who is a little over 3 feet. You don't have to be that smart either anymore. LAStang is proof of that.
