my first went well. The job would be for and administrative assistant. I have a misdemeanor theft charge to my name. So far they have not done a background check and they have not asked me to fill out an application. They have called my references. Do you think they will do a background check?

it would be better for you to bring it up.
explain what happened, what the results were, what you learned, how this experience has changed you and made you a better prospective employee. turn this blemish into a positive and a tool. |

Take things positively and attend the second interview. If they find out you do not get the job otherwise you would get. Being afraid and over sensitive you would not perform the interview well. Just go ahead and attend everything would be fine afterall this job alone is not the end of the world. The brave always wins . All the best. |

Depends on the company. Some employers do and others do not. At times, misdemeanor offenses do not put off some employers; however, if and when you fill out an application, be sure to indicate it if it is asked for. Some companies simply have stricter policies than others.
Being truthful is impressive to many employers, so be sure to fess up if asked. Better to be upfront and get a job at the right company than to be untruthful and make a bad impression by getting caught (it usually always comes to light).
