NEVER sign anything without reading it. If you do, you have basically said that you agree with whatever is in the document. No reputable employer would ask you to sign without reading. |

You have absolutely no obligation to sign any document without reading it first, and if you choose, to have legal counsel read it for you, if there are elements that you don't understand completely. It's funny, as soon as you mention 'your attorney', employers tend to be a whole lot nicer to you.
I hope you didn't sign it. |

No document or even a simple letter is to be signed unless read and fully understand it and consequence thereupon is your responsibility dear.. |

You should never sign anything without reading it. You may end up admitting that you are guilty of something you didn't do, or waiving your rights to legal counsel or severance benefits.
Tell the employer that you want to review the document, or that you will not sign it until you have had a lawyer review it. Take a copy of the document they want you to sign so that it cannot be altered later. The employer will usually stamp it with "employee refused to sign" or something similar - there is no legal requirement for you to sign a document you haven't read or don't agree with.
