Long story short, I found out that our receptionist was listening to other people's phone calls, including mine. I knew she could do this before, since she told me she found out by accident once. The person that told me this didn't work for my company, but knew lots about my personal life and my job. So I tell the bosses, she cries like the spoiled baby she is, she even called me an Fing B in the office. When I reported that, she denied it. Then I asked why they did nothing to help me? THey said she was smart enough to deny it. WTF? HOw is that fair? She was harassing me at work? She dresses like a little ****, and makes other people do the little work she has, and spends her entire 8 hours on personal phone calls. I worked my butt off at this job! She even went as far as to call me off the job and threaten me, and have her friends call and threaten me. I live in Utah, and I have been trying to get a copy of my personal file, or at least copies of anything I signed. They won't give it to me?
The stupid girl is still there, and I am now at a new job.
Any advice would be great! :-)

1. You normally have the right to review (in person) your personnel file, although I'm not sure about copies. You need to check out Utah's laws for that (a quick search and I haven't found anything);
2. There is probably an eavesdropping / wiretapping law in Utah (there is one in CA).
3. You might consider getting a restraining order to stop the harassing telephone calls. Perhaps a lawsuit for violation of privacy, eavesdropping, and sue the company you worked for too. Hopefully, you didn't sign any releases.

Did you file a written complaint with your employer? With Human Resources? I would contact your state's Department of Labor to see what you might be able to do if anything. If you were fired illegally because your employer fired you for filing a harassment case then this is retribution. If you were out of work for any period of time you may qualify for unemployment for that period but they will conduct an investigation asking the employer for their side and any paperwork. This may take time but look into it. I'm a firm believer of Karma and she will get hers eventually when someone gets her back. Good luck! |

Legally you have the right to see anything and everything in your personnel file.
Period, end of story.
My guess is that this receptionist is receiving protection from an executive.
If you can prove you were being harassed by this person and her fiends, you should be able to find an attorney who will take your case. The company can be found at fault for not protecting you from her. |
