I was offered a job and sent a hire packet...background check go through?

I interviewed on a monday, wed HR called and said my background check was sent in ans she would be calling my references...she called my boss on friday...this monday I got the offer via phone and recieved the hire packet in the mail on wed. they set my hire date for Feb 11. Does this mean my background check already went through? the hire packet has the info for a drug test in it. the letter states the offer is contingent upon the neg drug test and background check but the background check was sent in last week-is that why I was offered the job 1 week later...they waited for the check to go through?

Back ground check consists of various checks and some may take more than a month. Therefore please do not assume that the check is over !! |

Most likely the background check has not come back in yet. Companies offer position before getting the information in order to speed up the process and reduce the time it takes to fill a position. Also, most background checks for professional level positions come back favorable, I've only seen a handful of situations where an offer had to be rescinded. If you have nothing to worry about I would just wait for the process to be completed. However, if there are any questions in your mind, I would suggest you tell the company before any adverse information comes from someone else.
