Find answers to your legal question.

I was "fired" today, but the boss just said, you have to go. Is this legal?

I was written up once and our write forms go by steps. 1 verbal, 2 written, 3 is 2nd written, 4 is suspension and 5 fired. The boss is a known bully, which of course no one will stand up to him.
Additional Details
He stated there were complaints against me (wouldn't tell me them). I work in an extended care facility and my co-workers and residents love me and hate when I am off. This began when the weekend nurse got promoted to "nurse manager" basically because she is a robot and will do whatever she is told. Has no mind of her own, I however do, a bit.

progressive discipline is not a requirement of law
the policy you note is followed(when followed) to try and save an employee by giving them opportunities to improve their performance. you also don't have to be given a reason for the termination. the reason you were fired and any policy violations by you or your boss will become relevant if/when you file for unemployment. to prevent you from drawing unemployment insurance the employer must show "cause" or in some states "just cause" for your termination, if they do not you may qualify for unemployment.

Your boss has a right to fire you at any given time. You are working "at will" and if you did anything wrong........ever.......during the time you've been there, they can let you go.

He prob kept records of any issues that came up too.

Sounds like it may be against the rules. Talk to the better business bureau, ask them. Or call a lawyer and consult with them. It may be illegal.
However, if it is, and they have to hire you back, would you really go back?
