I wrote a letter to my boss's boss about how unprofessional he was at the work place. He had his favorite waitress and she got everything. anyways He had no idea i wrote the letter but a few weeks later the favorite waitress got some of my hours so i questioned him and he got very angry and yelled at me in the restaurant in front of customers and wait staff.... he then fallowed me outside and continued to yell at me i was very uneasy because he was turning red in the face and shaking!!.....He then fired me 2 weeks later for using the void button???? i am not sure if i can do anything or if i can report this to someone??? someone help me out i am just confused on my right as an employee

You will never understand if you don't connect your writing an insulting letter to your discharge. |

Umm....It sounds like he did connect the dots. From the way things played out, I wouldn't be surprised if your boss' boss already knew about your boss, plus sometimes your boss' boss will take your boss' words over yours. Writing an anonymous letter in this instance wasn't your best course of action...knowing the relationships between people in different levels of management can help you to decide if you "see no evil, hear no evil" or to blow the whistle. Your boss covered his tracks by firing you weeks later after the shouting incident. You might be better off looking for another job. |

Though your boss sounds like an a whole, you still have a right to appeal whatever action he has placed on you. However, the labor laws are usually pretty cut and forward, but you need to know if you are in a free will state. That means that the employer can fire you at will. There doesn't have to be a reason, and they don't HAVE to call you back. But 1st find out about your state laws. Ask a labor attorney. Check out this site and see if it helps. |

it sad to say but every work place has favorite and don't anyone tell you different. you need to do your best at any job and not foucus on other employees. your boss is a butt head no doubt, but you can write a letter to his boss which migh be corp. the kind of work you do you can find another and most likely a better one not all boss are but heads, beside she most likely doing the boss. |

Shake it off. Get another job and then call him up and Thank him for letting you go as you are very happy at your new restaurant. Suggest he stop by sometime and check out the menu. Make sure to pick the worst restaurant in town... |

He had the right to fre you for any reason or for no reason. Writing the letter was a really, really bad idea.
It's time to move on and get a new job. |

First it seems like there are a lot of different issues going on here.
First if you write a complaint letter they can not fire you over this. However if all the letter said was basically I'm not getting what I want then it shouldn't be written. Now if there are problems with his temper, not training you properly or breaking employment law then a written complaint letter should be written.
As far as the firing did he give the reasons for letting you go? Had you be written up before? Customer compalints? Alot of tardies/sick days? Then it could be a combination. If you have been warned and written up they have every right to terminate.
Also several states are what is called "At will states" which mean an employer can let you go at anytime without a reason.
If you think your employment rights were violated then go to the Wage and Labor Laws website for your state and they will give you a way to complain.
A good site is www.dol.gov go under laws and regulations and then frequently asked questions (Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This should answer most of your questions. |
