My co-worker was arrested for passing counterfeit cashiers checks, they came to the job to talk to her she admitted that she knew they were counterfeit and told the police she got them from me. She was arrested on the spot. I came to work the next day and was questioned by the police I told them I did not give her the checks, nor pay her for any thing with the checks. I was sent back to work, the next day was my day off on friday I was sent home on administrative leave. After three weeks I was called and told to come in and pick up my final paycheck. While being terminated I was told that the police were not interested in me, I asked what I did wrong and was told I chose the wrong friend. Can they do this?

if you were deemed innocent by the police, they have no just cause for firing you unless it is written in your contract or it was a term of hiring that they dont need a reason to fire you. you can request an arbitration or take them to court but i would try calling your ex-boss or an HR person and if he wont tell you why, go to his boss and work your way up the ladder. call a lawyer and see if you can make a case, if so, you will either get your job back or be compensated for your losses. but there are a LOT of laws around wrongful firing. also, if you are part of a union, seek their help out also. you at least deserve an explanation. |

It's legal. You can be terminated for suspicion of doing wrong, even if you were not arrested. Employers don't have to have the same level of proof as the courts system. |

Depends on which state... And if you signed that agreement that they can terminate you at any time with or without notice... If you signed any agreement like that, then legally speaking they are in the clear. Morally speaking the fu*ked up! Sorry |

No they can't. They have no reasonable grounds on terminating your contract when it was proven that you had no connection to the co-worker. |
