I wasnt fired from my last job but i was forced to resign due to theft. what should i put on my resume?

I wasn't fired from my last job but i was forced to resign due to theft. what should I tell my new employers during interviews when they ask why i left my previous company. should i say i left for personal reasons or looking for a better opportunity?

Don't even put them on your resume. All it takes is one reference call and you're toast.

Was it really that great of a job that you NEED it on the resume? Probably not.

Unless you're applying to Nasa, I would follow this advice.

I don't know what state you live in, but in NYS prospective employers who call your last place of employment can only really find out your employed from and employed to dates.
If you list any personal references however, they can say whatever they want (as it is their own opinion of your character) so you should always list people you know well.
As far as leaving without a cause, which will show a gap in your history, perhaps you could enroll in some courses to further your career. This way, at least it would help "cover" the true reason.
