This has now reduced my work hours to 3 1/2. Can he do this?

Not if you have a contract stating how many hours you are supposed to work. What were the terms of your hiring...it all depends on that. You may be able to challenge it, but in the long run it may not actually be worth fighting for a part time job. It depends on how strongly you feel on the issue. |

Sure he can, why couldn't he? The employer has the right to set your hours. And federal law does not require that a half hour break be paid. |

The break time is required by law, but being paid for the break time is not required by any state or federal law. Employers do reserve the right to change work hours and shifts, most of them post that statement in employee handbooks or in a labor poster.
By the way, for the previous poster, most companies will not allow employees to work through their break to leave early or make up time that has been missed from work. |

That doesn't sound right. At the job there should be a posting of labor laws and the types of breaks you are to be getting. |

depending on what state your in you should even be given a break unless you work at least 6 hrs per shift....just dont go on break or take your break towards the end of your shift and leave early...check your states employment rules and reg's |
