I work third shift. Once a month my employer makes us work a daytime shift. Is this legal?

It's hard enough to get used to third shift. Then, once a month, we have to work a daytime shift which is essentially the same as someone on first shift pulling an all nighter. Is this okay for them to do?

Because labor laws differ depending on what country/province/state you work in, you would need to ask the government agency that oversees wage and hour laws where you work for the specifics.

If you are in the US, there is no federal law that mandates how may hours or what shifts you can work. There may be some high risk positions where exposure to something or where safety is an issue that limit the number of hours or days in a row you work, but you would need to know if yours is one of them. Some examples of this are pilots, long haul truckers and other jobs where alertness is important that do have federally mandated limits on the number of hours you can work.

Yes, nothing illegal about it.
