You can threaten to sue him. You will need some sort of evidence that you worked as long as you did (someone working with you, completed work especially if it is electronic and has a date stamp, etc.) if you want to sue him. Often, threatening someone with a lawsuit is enough to get them to give in, because lawsuits are expensive.

If you are in a union job, talk to your union rep and they will help you. If he has a superior, go over his head and complain about him. If he is the head honcho and you do not have a union, you can call the department of Labor or talk to a lawyer.

Good luck! I hope you get your money.

take him to court!

If there is someone else you work with that can verify your hours, that will help. Also, if you have any timed/dated work products (emails, computer files, etc.) that would indicate your work time, that will also be evidence. Then you should contact your State Labor Board (or State Workforce Association, or whatever it's called in your state). You are going to have to do some serious work to document those hours, but if you win, your company will not only have to pay you, they may also have to pay penalties for not paying you on time (depending on what state you are working in). Also, most states have laws requiring you to sign a time sheet every day, verifying when you started and stopped work. Check your state's labor laws (usually available online) for details. Either way, make your boss sign something every day verifying the hours you worked. Note that you may have to be more vigilant than usual--250 hours in a month is an extremely high amount, and there will be some onus put on you to show that you really did that much work.

If you have proof you worked those hours then warn him you will take him to court unless he pays you. If you have no proof there's nothing you can do.

How were your hired? If this is a legitimate business then the owner is legally bound to pay you the agreed upon wage for the actual hours worked. You can file a complaint with the labor commission (USA - other countries may have different names). If this is an individual - who hired you for baby sitting or something along those lines - you can file a small claims action. This is not a highly technical procedure and is made for the average person to be able to collect smaller amounts (up to $7000 in some states) without using an attorney - check it out at your local justice court. Good luck.

How did you work 250 hours in one pay period? Okay, what you need to do is report your complaint to Wage & Hour, it's part of the Labor Department and should be in the blue pages of your local phone directory.

If you get no assistance there you can sue in small claims court for your pay. I'm sure you can manage some evidence you actually works, if nothing more than a witness you answered the phone, etc. Good luck.

Quit and report him to the Department of Labor. What kind of business is it?

Mel
Take that timesheet straight to the department of labor - www.dol.gov has a link to the office in your area. Also bring with you any pay policies from your company.

You must be paid for the time you worked. The DoL will file a claim on your behalf at no charge to you.

Good luck!

Call your state department of labor. And find a new job. What good is it working for this guy if he won't pay you???

250 hours, that's like 6 weeks of pay!!

?
I work and write my time and a time sheet too. Accept I give my time sheet to my supervisor. I would file a complaint. On a piece of paper you write down your problem and then someone will look into it. OR I would tell him and explain that you work 250 hours. Try to get through to him or else quit.
