First, get the details of the "treated very badly" and write down all of the details.

Then contact a local employment attorney. You can submit the situation at www.findlaw.com.

Your friend would need to file a claim of discrimination with their local EEOC office. (No charge to file a claim) But, it will take a while for the process to go through it's motions. Some times it will take 6 months to a year to get a ruling. (And I can't imagine it will be very comfortable for your friend to continue working at their company while this is going on.)

Or, they can get an attorney and go that route as well.

Your best bet would be to get a hold of someone in the equal employment opportunity commission, they the ones who go after employers who abuse the law. Check your state web page and or use the yellow pages online enter EEOC then enter your city and state. Explain the situation to someone from this organization because their there to help you. They the one who bring up complaints against employers, they have lawyers.

basically if your friend is offended/hurt by any actions of another then that is harrassment/discrimination and is easy to win a case. It is easy to prove as well but will need to be documented. anything to which your friend is being individually subjected to may be discrimination.
The only problem will then be the atmosphere within the work place post any claim - win or lose. This will then put them in a position where they may not be able to work there again. Solution to this is "constructive dismissal" in favour again for your friend. Just document the occassions as proof.
It may not be the company but rather just one individual.
Nice to be helping your friend.

everyones perception of someone else is subjective, being treated badly may or may not be the issue, the question is are any laws being violated is there racial, age, gender discrimination
