IS IT LEGAL TO BUY MY MOMS PLACE AND CHARGE HER RENT?
Find answers to your legal question.

IS IT LEGAL TO BUY MY MOMS PLACE AND CHARGE HER RENT?

My mom has no income right now and does not qualify for welfare because she owns her place. She recently had neck surgary. Before that she did not work for a while because of the pain. I have been paying her bills for the last several months from my savings. It will take quite a while for her full recovery and I only have enough left for 2 more months. We live hours away and I do not want to move her from her medical set up. I am also in a lease that is not up until 4 months, but my job is also up here and it won't be easy to get the same position and pay if I move down there. She still owes on the title of her mobile home. If the payments can not be paid for it or the space rent, then the park can take over ownership and evict her. My hope was, if it is legal, to buy her place for 10000 dollars that I would get from a bank loan. Even though it is worth more, that is the monthly payment set up I can afford from my income. 5000 of it would pay off the title. The other 5000 would be used to pay the space rent each month, also for her utilities and gas. She would not own her place anymore so she should qualify for welfare so she can recovery without worring of lossing a place to live until she is on her feet and can get back to work. The money she would use is the same money I used to pay for the mobile in the first place. Thats the part I am worried about. It would be like me paying myself to buy a place.

Mobile homes in parks are very hard to get loans for, almost impossible. Has she applied for Medicaid? I think she might actually qualify. You might also be overestimating the value of the home, particularly in the current market. Generally, the government disallows that type of transaction to qualify for medicaid. Maybe you can put it up for sale, make a few bucks and get her an apartment?

hahaha yes it's legal.
You have to be a landlord that's all.
If she's staying there, and you bought the place, you can charge her for rent.
