---- IS THIS EVEN LEGaL ??????--------

so i went on a job interview on friday- and received a job offer right there on the spot. i happily accepted. Now i get a disturbing email from the person that offered me the job. and he is sorry but he has to pull back the job offer?? is that even legal to do that?? and what are the next steps i should take in order to make sure this dosent happen to anyone else, that this company may br "hiring"??
Additional Details
the job offer was a verbal agreement and i was asked to sighn all new-hire paperwork on my first day the following monday

Yes, it is legal, providing you did not sign a contract. This has happened to me, but it was for the best. This is why I am leery of employers hiring on the spot. In this case, he either found someone else or he made a big error and should have never offered it in the first place. I hope you did not leave a job to take this one!

ETA:

For the record, in my case, I have a clean background. Not even a parking ticket. What happened was they extended offers to people thinking there would be jobs (it was a job fair) and apparently, the budget was not passed to allow for the new hires. You cannot assume ANYTHING until you find out for sure. You absolutely should ask him what happened, so you have an idea, in case there is something you do not know about. I am not even sure a check could come back this fast. I would call him and ask why he rescinded the offer. You have that right. Once you know, you can just let it go and move on.

I have been there. I know it stinks. BUT my advice to you is to let it go. You don't want to go around saying anything bad about the company because that could just give you problems.

I am sorry this happened to you.

If there is no contract or union involved, you can get released for no reason.

Yes it is legal. But not a very impressive way to do business. Maybe this is an indication that you are better off not working for the company.
Don't get down just go out there and and get another interview and hope to get a job with a better company.
Good luck.

unless you have it in writing they can do what they want. Talk to them and ask why, just in case it is a background or drug screen problem that you can explain or try to clear up. If it doesnt help, then I would suggest moving on to another company. Doesnt sound like you would want to work for them anyway.

It's perfectly legal. Just because you take the interview, it doesn't mean you get the job. Just look for a job that suites you well, and you're good at. Good luck!

It's legal. Looks like something came up in your background check that they didn't like and so they rescinded the offer.

Get legal help, ask a lawyer what actions can be taken before this person does the same to somebody else.
