I don't want to be a lawyer because I'm not much of a public speaker, are there any other careers that I can do by going into law school?

No, and you don't even have to get high when you'r in high school.
No, of course not, there are many people with law degrees who do not practice law. YOu could become a law professor, a journalist, a writer, and anything else.
But in one sense you will become a lawyer when you finish--in the sense that anyone who graduates from law school is a lawyer, even tho they may not be a practicing one.
BUT law school is expensive and if you do not want to become a lawyer or you do not have a specific plan as to why you need a law degree, then you should think really hard about taking on that kind of debt.
If you go into law practice you have the best chance of making enough money to pay your student loans. If you want to do something else, you have to ask if you are going to make enough money to pay back your debt.
Also many lawyers are not public speakers--they do not argue cases in court, but are transactional lawyers--they draft contracts or wills etc. And even those who go to court do not do public speaking the way you see lawyers on tv--most of the time you're just talking to the judge. And when you have a big case that goes to the jury, you often team up with other lawyers and you could let someone else handle the closing arguments etc. It is never like it is on tv where everyone in the courtroom is watching and listening to you. Maybe some lawyers do that once in a while but it is sooooo rare, like the OJ trial, it happens once in a blue moon, and recall that they had many lawyers on each side on that case. |
