If I give my 2 weeks notice of resignation (california) and the same day they tell me to leave ? is it legal?

I am about to quit my job because I will start school and my schedule conflicts with my work hours. So I would like to give my 2 weeks notice but where i work if you tell them about your 2 weeks notice they tell you to leave the same day. Is it legal to do that? Do I get pay for those 2 weeks? Thank you .....for helping

Not only legal, but quite common at many companies. If you are leaving, they don't want you hanging around. If you have accrued vacation pay, they should pay that. There is no severance for voluntary quit. So since you know the drill, wait until the last minute - the day you want to be your last day - give them their 2 weeks notice late on Friday afternoon and you're out.

Make sure you gradually - and unnoticed! - clean out your desk. Get all your personal doodads out of there in advance. Take your coffee mug home - you need to clean it, will be short of mugs for a big party over the weekend, some innocuous excuse in case anyone notices.

The other poster is absolutely correct.

When you give notice and leave, you no longer care what you do, make mistakes, bad mouth, or think, what can they do to me, fire me? So many companies to alleviate all of that, just ask you to leave instead.

But even though you are going back to school, is there any way that you could still work PT that does not conflict with school? If so, why not suggest that so you could still make a few bucks. But if there is no way you can work there and go to school, just put in your notice when you want to leave, be it the last day you can work there. If they ask why you waited to do this, just tell them based on prior experience of sending employees home on the date they gave notice, you wanted to work the last 2 weeks instead.

good luck

Yes it's legal, not uncommon, and no they don't have to pay you for the two weeks. You might or might not be eligible for unemployment for the second of the two weeks.
