A few months back a co worker left the job and someone else came into fill their shoes however the job seemed to be too much so it was divided into two positions and I was put in one of those positions and today without any knowlege or warning it was stripped from. I work for a small online buisness that is growing at an incredible rate and because it is growing so fast and it is too much to manage for one or two people but instead of adding another job I was demoted without any notice or warning of losing my place in the company. Is that considered grounds for wrongful termination? I received no indication from the owner or any of the managers that the change would take place.

assuming you are not under contract:
was your pay cut?
if not this is totally legal, employers may change your duties at any time.
if your pay was cut then you must be given notice before the change goes into effect. in a couple of states you must be given a weeks notice but in almost all states the notice must just be before you actually work at the new rate.
no you can not sue for wrongful termination, you were not terminated. even if you were terminated you can not sue for wrongful termination unless discrimination or retaliation was involved.
if you were under contract then the contract takes precedence if it deals with this issue. |

You have been demoted from what seems like a non permanent position, that is not wrongful termination.
One job was split and the workload was shared, that does not make it a permanent or promoted position, it just meant you were doing part of someones elses job ...and now you are not .
You have not even been demoted , you have simply had those extra responsibilities removed and gone back to your old position. |
