hmm that's tough because putting that experience on there could help you land the job - seeing as it's in basically the exact same field as the job you're applying for.
i don't know the policy of what an old manager is aloud to say when they're called, so if you're afraid of it, i would just leave that employer off the list and like someone else said - say you were doing traveling or you had personal things going on or something. this is assuming that you have other employment experiences besides this one that you quit going to.
i've interviewed and gotten a job with nordstrom before and i know they're all about "hiring the right people" and they're interview process is actually more complex than you would expect a retail job to be.. i know some people had to go through 3 interviews just to get a sales job - which seems rediculous because after all, it's just a sales job. and i know for me, they did a background check and called my previous employers. |

Put yourself in their shoes: employers generally are suspicious when you cannot put references from your most recent and relevant jobs. This is especially true if it was your last job AND it's almost the same job.
They probably wont contact anyone if you don't give them the contact information, and if you have plenty of other references there's a significant chance it wont matter. Wow them in the interview. |

If you are applying to jobs that just don't do background/employment checks, and don't require references, then you can leave this off and talk around it.
That said, a good HR department is going to dig to find out what the truth is about why you left any position. Gaps in resumes make people ask questions about what you were doing during that time.
Let's take the example of telling them you were overseas:
So you tell your potential new employer you were overseas - and the next thing that happens you get the job. Great! Contingent on a background/employment check. Not so great.
A better answer is to be honest, and tell them what you learned. I wasn't able to continue working at the position at company X because... and answer professionally. Then tell them what you learned. I now know that talking to someone about concerns, and trying to find solutions that help the company are what I'm interested in doing.

Many people in your situation would just leave a gap in their resume and if they ask you what you did at that time just say you went overseas or something.......if you not comfortable with this just be honest and tell them what happen (you betta have a very good reason why you got fired though) and try and convince them that it wont happen again.Only if you mean it though.
good luck |

It depends how long ago it was as to if they will ask for a reference, usually they will only go back to your last 3 employers.
You need to include it, because honesty is the best policy, you didn't, strictly speaking get fired because you left (albeit not in the correct way if you just left). |

I dont think your previous employers would be allowed to tell the new people why you were fired, or that you were fired at all. Unless they have good things to say, they are only allowed to confirm the dates that you worked for them. At least that is what my boss has said.
So if you give the job as a reference and they dont add on any "nice" comments (only confirm the dates) they might be a little suspicious. If you have a reason for not showing up I think it'd be best to just tell them. somehow I would think that they would figure it out. |
