If you don't pay taxes that means you are working "under the table."

That means that, while yes, if you work you should get paid, you don't have many options to fight for your paycheck. The law is not on your side here - the only way to get your parents to pony up the money you worked for is to take it to an outside legal agency, and the first thing they're going to say is "why haven't you paid taxes."

So, in a few words - yes, if you worked you should get paid, but since you don't pay taxes on your paycheck there isn't much you can do to force them to pay you.

Two questions that could make a difference:

1) How old are you?

2) Is this a family-owned business you're working for?

We really can't give appropriate advice until we know.

Working for family can sometimes be very hard. You get torn between what is legal and what family should do. I worked for my brother for 3 years and sometimes had to hold my check for a couple of weeks before cashing just to make sure there was money in the bank. I suggest you try to get a job outside of the family business.

If you signed all the papers to work for them, one of the required papers would have been an income tax withholding form (W-4) which tells an employer how much in taxes to withhold from your paycheck and report to the government. If you do not earn enough money and are exempt from taxes then this would be different.

Did you just start working for them? In most cases you won't receive a check the first payroll cycle that you work. The day you are paid would cover time worked in the previous pay period. Ask them what is going on and where is your check.

They should withhold taxes and give you the net check. If you owe them for rent or other debt they should have your written permission to withhold that.
