Most definately. Everyone has their space and you should never invade that space and they should never invade yours. If they are so bad that it is affecting your job performance then tell the boss. Reacting the way will only get you fired.

Under the law, the old saying of "sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never hurt me" will apply, b/c unless the other person hit you first, you don't have a reason to hit them.

Absolutely. This is a tort, and you will also likely be charged with assault and battery. You may also have suit filed against you and be forced to pay punitive and exemplary damages, and with this spot on your record, you will have hard time finding work again.

yes, if someone has a problem with you, he needs to be reprimanded.

you need to tell your supervisor or the ethics department asap. this way if you try to stay away from him and he continues to provoke you you have an alibi.

but if you touch him nor matter how mad he makes you, unless it is self defense you will be let go and probably arrested along with the other guy.

Never lose your temper or fight back. GO TO YOUR BOSS ASAP, and let them know what's going on, because YES you can get fired for that. The sooner you tell your boss, they can figure out the problem with your coworker or try to separate the two of you. Or better, fire him or something. But don't placate into his/her behavior. Keep your cool and talk to your boss.
