All that matters is if you're getting paid the proper amount. If there were no holidays and you didn't call in sick or use a vacation day, then you should be paid for 40 standard hours and 44 overtime hours at time-and-a-half.
If the purpose of two checks is to pay you for 40 standard hours twice plus 4 overtime hours in one week, then that is illegal. Contact your state labor relations board and report it. There's no need to pay for a lawyer, who would cost you far more than the missing pay. |

might be a violation of overtime regulations ... you need to consult state and local law, plus Federal regs if your employer is big enough to be subject to them.
