If you work at a bank and file bankruptcy?
Find answers to your legal question.

If you work at a bank and file bankruptcy?

then when they get the letter informing them of your filing, they harrass you by calling you in and telling you if you don't dismiss it they are going to let you go, to the point that you quite. by telling you they are going to fire you etc. is this legal? or can this be considered harassment. this happened to someone close to me and i think it is horrible. they had an employee with a drinking problem and offered him rehab, but when my friend had financial problems like many people they harass and threaten him with termination. he worked for this bank six years in good standing. i think it is horrible but an curious as to what the law is. i am in kentucky.

If I ran a bank and had an employee who filed for bankruptcy, I would fire him or her on the spot unless he was in such a junior position that financial competence was irrrelevant (for instance if he was a guard or teller).

Bankruptcy is not an illness, it shows an inability to manage your financial affairs in a sensible way.

I would ask why the employee did not come to the bank for advice earlier and would wonder about his judgment.

Imagine if you came to a bank for advice and found you were talking to someone who was bankrupt?

Not long ago people were put in prison for this. And, no there are no laws that will protect him as the issue is not about race, gender, age or disability.

ummmm the banks can go bankrupt, so why can't their employees do the same? sounds like a human rights issue to me
