Impersonating a lawyer or attorney?

Impersonating a lawyer or attorney?

Is telling someone that you are an attorney/lawyer illegal? Is impersonating a lawyer/attorney illegal? Because, in my own opinion, impersonating isn't really a crime because you have to ask yourself, what makes this person an attorney? For example..say if my name is Gerry and I have a friend and his name is mike. We could create a law firm called "Law offices of Gerry & Mike" or "Gerry & Mike Law Firm". I don't know if my friend is experienced wtih the laws ,but I am personally knowledgable with civil lawsuite cases and other civil matters. Since I've practiced that part of the law, couldn't I say I'm attorney and I practice civil lawsuit? The only difference between me saying i'm an attorney and a real is attorney is that i won't have a license with the state in which i'm practicing in. So, can I establish a self employment law firm business and call it "The law offices of Gerry" and refer to me as an attorney if i know the law?

Is this a joke? Good one then. I got a good laugh out of it. Thank you.

You've never practiced law. Practicing law means you have provided legal counsel and representation to others. Anyone is free to represent oneself but you can't practice law without being licensed as an attorney. It's a felony and on top of that you can get sued by your own clients as well.

Every state has a law against the unauthorized practice of law. In many states, it is a criminal offense.

I have just two words for you what will happen to a person impersonating an attorney "JAIL TIME." Judges take this very, very seriously and they have always in such cases thrown the book at the perpetrator. It is considered a felony that can carry a sentence of 2 to 10 years. What you are planning on doing falls under the very definition of "fraud." You obviously have NO legal background regardless of what you are saying you know otherwise you wouldn't have posted this question. Piece of advice for you: Don't drop the soap.

This is called the "unauthorized practice of law" and you can be prosecuted for doing it....so don't even think about it.

My Thoughts U Can't Decode
Think about it... if you could legally do this, why would real lawyers spend all the time and money that they do to become laywers?
