In England is it legal to not give someone a payrise for 2 years?

It is perfectly legal never to give anybody a payrise.

Employers do it for inflation and to be fair, but they are entitled not to if they choose/

Barbara Doll to you
You can never give someone a payrise as long as they earn more than the minimum wage. Though it might not be a good idea if you wish to keep them, and keep up their moral.

Graham N
There is no legislation that covers it.

As long as it is above the minimum wage it is down to your contract of employment whether you are entitled to regular increases.

JD
You can have a payrise and you can't. Most people do but if somebody is lazy or hardly does any work they will not. its perfectly legal. Higher up people like PA's will get payrises no questions asked.

They don't have to give you a payrise at all.

It depends on the conditions of your contract too.

Michael A
Not only in England, but in most countries of the world.

Companies base remuneration of their workers on profit. The more profit, the more payrise. The less profit, the stagnant pay or reduction of staff.

No court of law will order a company to just go and pay when they are in fact liquidating. The worst you can do is to resign your appointment and look for a better job elsewhere.

You are entitled to what-ever benefits you have signed when you took up your appointment

Yes it is - my Dad worked for 1 company for 10 years, him and his colleagues NEVER had a payrise.

No, but firms must pay at least the minimum government set rate. So if it rises in that period they must pay it.

I haven't had a pay rise in 4 years - The hourly rate back then was good, £7ph but its still the same. Scotland.

More often than not, companies do not give an automatic pay rise, they wait until a person asks, and that takes a lot of courage.
Go ask for one, they can only say no, then you can request an answer to the question why!
