I live in the Bronx, and I used up most of my sick time in the beginning of the year when I was pregnant. Can a company do this? Shouldn't they just not pay you for the days that you are out and leave your vacation days alone?

they do not have to give you unpaid time off but have you asked them about doing that? perhaps they assumed you need the pay.
employers do not have to provide any paid time off such as vacation or sick days and if they do the law allows them to decide when and how it is used. you really should discuss your concerns with your employer.

They don't have to give you time off at all. So they can charge it to your vacation days - or fire you - seems like you're a lot better off using vacation days than getting fired for excessive sick days. |

You could probably opt to not get paid but if your vacation time rolls over, they probably won't let it accumulate into the next year. |

Depends if you want to get paid or not............if you can live on nothing do it.............an employer can do anything they want if you don't have a contract....... |

I know New York State does not have a mandated vacation law for employers whom do not give any fringe benefits to their employees. So this means, I cannot get any requested vacation time at all, whether my employer pays or not? Minding, my boss takes some time off every year without giving any of his employees time off of their own! Although, he did give us a week off 4 years ago, when he had taken a trip for 2 weeks with his family to Europe. My employer at first said, we were getting 2 weeks vacation, but at the last moment, he made us work for one week without doubling our pay to make matters right, then getting the week off! |
