Thames Water have asked me to provide confirmation that the 6 people I live with are all equally accountable for paying the bills, so their names can be added to the account and it wont just be my name on the bills. (the others are refusing to help me pay the bills due to their b****y nature).
So what I was thinking was to copy into word and email Thames Water the clause from the tenancy saying my housemates agreed with the landlord "to pay to the authorities to whom they are due all charges for gas, water etc" and then photocopy their signatures from the end of the tenancy. As I haven't forged their signatures or made up the clause from the tenancy which they agreed to, is this illegal? Can I use it as confirmation, that they did agree to help pay bills?

Forgery is illegal and it could get you into some serious trouble. If your roommates are taking advantage of you, start looking for a new place right away. Don't stop paying the bill cause the company could sue you for the money, and definitely will mess up your credit. But you should consider suing your deadbeat roommates in small-claims court after you leave. Remember that small claims courts have their own requirements, like formal written notice before filing an action, so find out what they are in your area. The info is usually available on-line from your county's civil court. Make sure you keep a copy of the lease, the bills and any correspondence with the water company, especially proof of payment. Finally, teach those deadbeats a lesson by not telling them when you're moving and arranging to have the water and anything else in your name alone terminated just before you go. |
