Indian lawyer in Australia

Hi , I have a query ….Can you help me to get an answer …….My query is Can an Indian Lawyer work in Australia? Is there any test for the same as we have QLTT for UK. OR Indian lawyers have to clear the QLTT to work in Australia? Would appreciate your response on the same. Thanks Regards MAMTA

Hi Mamta, I've read your query and being a law graduate in India you need to write an application to the Council of legal education, in the form of an affidavit, providing every detail regarding your education and work experience. On the basis of that affidavit, the council will evaluate your affidavit and reply. The council might ask you to satisfy certain conditions which could be to re-do a few subjects as per their education pattern (the required subjects will be mentioned in their reply to you) and/or to take some work experience as a clerk. You can do these subjects either online through any university in australia which is recognised by their govt. nd that list too shall be provided to you by the council. You can also do these subjects on-campus through some university in Australia. That is your choice. The council shall also provide you a time limitation (say 5 years) to satisfy the requirements as demanded by them. And if you succeed in doing so then you can apply for license to practise in Australia before the Supreme Court of Victoria. Whereas, if you fail to do so within the prescribed time period then you will have to apply to the Council all over again. The website of COLE is www.lawadmissions.vic.gov.au/ You'll get all the forms, templates and details over here with regard to applying to COLE as an overseas practitioner.
