Is a signed electronic paper legal?

if I asked someone to sign a contract , then send it back by email (scanned image).. considered legal in law ??

I work in a law office and we do it all the time. The Courst are doing it to. But everything is also followed up by mail....

it is perfectly legal. I work in a law office too. Now, if it is notarized, then the hard copy needs to be mailed back.

Only if it is authorized by statute, rule of court or by an original signed agreement of the parties. Anyone can fake a signature electronically. Using Adobe's pdf format makes it more difficult, but not impossible.

Yes -

there are lots of reasons the scenario you depict creates a legally signed document.

1) You actually signed it -- it doesn't matter whether you ever send it back by any method.

2) Often, one or another party will have a xerox'd copy of one of the sinatures -- these copies are still valid versions of the signed contract. The scanned version is no different.

3) By federal (and state) law, you could also have used an electornic signature, and created a valid signature.

4) Even if actually unsigned, you probably still have a valid oral agreement if you intended to sign.
