My employer fired me because i called in once in 3 months and is now telling me that paychecks are not supposed to come in untill the following monday and the checks are dated for the previous wednesday. Can he legally hold my check until monday when he gets it on thursday?

Yes. if that is the pay cycle. if you were fired, you can demand your check and it must be supplied in a reasonable period of time. |

If you were fired, there may also be other issues - legal, unemployment, security - that also may have to be addressed. Short answer is yes, but I would not make waves and turn over any materials that are company property if you want your check. They can hold it on you as well if there are issues - even if it streches the law a little. |

Yes he can. You can not received your check until the actual pay date that is on the check. We do payroll on Monday received it on Tuesday but do not distribute it until Friday, the actual pay date.
generally when a person has been terminated depending on your state regs you must receive all payments owed to you the following pay period. |

Possibly has to with paperwork to verify you no longer are employed there...sorry. Where I live, If your fired, you can demand your payment before you leave the door.Nobody follows the rules though. I'm guessing they're holding simply for their own paperwork(your not always legally fired by one person alone). |
