The only person who even came remotely close to answering your question was SteveF. Is there any fun or rest? Yes. After you have spent thousands, upon thousands of sleepless nights hoping to get some type of recognition from the partners at your place of employment (if you make it into a law firm) and hope and pray you eventually build your own clientele. Then you can go on vacation. Can you think of fun? No. Because you still need to spend probably another 10 to 15 years establishing a reputation so lets not leave the laptop and cell phone behind for just in case you have to rush back home because the courts decided to move up a court date. A motion now has to be submitted within the next 2 days and not 12 days. If you do not have a sincere love of the law in some way, shape, or form it is not a field to go into. Not to mention the 3 years of hell in law school (part time is 4 years and YOU CANNOT exceed the 4 years or you are out!) By my second year at least 25 students didn't return after 1L. This doesn't even include the small handful who left after the first semester. And lastly, no attorney knows every aspect of the law and any attorney who says they do? I would run for the hills. It is impossible! Most attorneys concentrate in a small number of areas that relate to their perspective field of expertise. For example, I have personally been dealing with employment law issues for the last 16 years so obviously this is the area I am entering. I can also decide to practice immigration law since it goes hand in hand, but not a field I am AT ALL interested in.

The critical skills are research and 'thinking outside the box'. What is 'hard' for one person is not necessarily hard for another. What you LOVE to do will always SEEM easier for you. What you HATE will SEEM harder.

Sarah: I once talked to a licensed attorney that was also a CPA. NO ONE knows 10% of the law. You must actually KNOW more law to pass the CPA exam then the BAR exam.

The biggest problem facing the field of Law right now is that the number of jobs is just drying right up. There are more Attorneys/Lawyers than jobs. THIS is THE biggest problem facing the field of Law right now. The competition is FIERCE. (There is always someone at your back with a "knife". Also: the public generally today think that they can be their own attorneys now, thanks to the Internet.)

The law schools know this >they know that the market/economy is just SATURATED, but they continue to recruit and churn out even more graduates, which just worsens the problem.

YES, being a Lawyer is really THAT hard................

People don't become Lawyers to have "fun".............

Forget about rest.............

YES/NO it's all based on the individual, the motivation for entering law. the legal profession is a rewarding and challenging field. Many attys. love what they do and enjoy the challenges and could not imagine life in any other field. Don't let the media, family, friends, bad press detere you from persuing this field if you want this, do you? go for it

law school is very hard, you must know every law and how it applies and every major case that has altered law. being a lawyer requires long hours, tons of paperwork, and constant litigation which is very draining and some companies require you to travel frequently. it's a very demanding occupation.
