I've noticed on numerous occasions my employer will leave open the a window on the computer that shows the staffs names and full SSN's after doing paychecks and will sometimes leave and to go home and not close the window. Anyone walking past the office can see the information. He seems to not care when I approached him on the subject. Is there anything I can do?

NO but...
the employer does have a responsibility to protect the information.
where is the computer?
do others use the computer in question?
are others suppose to be in this area?
prudent business practice would dictate a better policy and enforcement of said policy but this is not a legal issue at this time.
if something were to happen with this information then the employer would have some liability and due to that fact they should put policies in place to protect the information in question. you need to approach your employer in this manner rather then the legal issue. explain how their failure to protect this information could cost them dearly. make this a win-win for the employer and you. |
