Is it against the law for employeers to not hire if u have a felony?

Here in michigan the empolyeers plan out say if u have a felony dont even apply. but what if u do but is has nothing to deal with the work. U have a great work history but because u need to more then 3 jobs to live. Is it against the law for them to say "ya r would be a great canidate but o wait u have a felony from 5 yrs ago, can the do that?

They have the right to refuse to hire felony offenders if they wish.

You need to go back to school and get more training, with more training an employer might be more likely to overlook your history. Another path might be to start speaking at schools, to let kids know what you have experienced in trying to get a decent job with a record. This will look good on an application, and who knows, you may even make a kid think about the consequences of their actions.

So, let's see if I understand this. You broke the law, committed a crime, and not a misdemeanor but a felony, and got convicted. And now you want to ***** about an employer's policy or practice of not hiring felons?

You want to talk about enforcing the law, but only when it benefits you?!? Give me a frickin' break!

Now, I don't necessarily agree with that employer's policy, especially if it's a blanket policy and does not allow room for exceptions, but still, you really can't believe that you have "rights" here that are greater than the employer's rights, can you???

They don't have to hire you at all. You cannot force someone to hire you, and if you do, watch out. You'll be out the door real quick. There are companies; however, who don't think this way, and give people second chances. I read about one a few weeks ago.

No, if you have a felony record, the federal government can refuse to hire you, so, why can't other employers.

equal opportunity laws don't protect criminal history. there's no law against it.

No. They can refuse anyone based on criminal records.

You might be able to collect an umemployment check out of this. I would try if i were you. I would study every thing about getting an check on the internet and ask a whole lot of questions. DOnt let them screw you. YOU shouldn't have 3 jobs. Nobdy should have to do that.

Not at all- most employers will not hire anyone with a felony conviction, and it is legal for them to refuse to do so. In fact in some cases, it's mandatory - government contractors, military subcontractors, and the like are expressly prohibited from hiring anyone with a felony conviction.

Sorry - I know it makes it that much harder. Good luck.

You want to know why recidivism rates are so high? It's because people who have done their jail time and/or their probation time and now can't get a job. People need to be able to make a living. Having a felony should NOT stop you from getting a job if you have completed all of your legal obligations. It's amazing to me that people don't think a felon should get a decent job but then can't figure out why there are repeat offenders... think about it people.

i feel that if you are a felony an you did your jail sentance or prison time or probation time they should give a second chance. I feel that it die wrong to judge a persion on they past. if the person truely in his or she heart stop doing crime. i feel that people sholud let them work. if we people dont let them people work how can they eat buy a nice home have a family buy a car? we people need to pray for them people. cause they need serious help.
